USCIS Publishes Proposed Fee Waiver Form

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has proposed for the first time a standardized fee waiver form for individuals applying for immigration benefits who are unable to pay filing fees. Currently, applicants must request a waiver by submitting an affidavit or unsworn declaration stating the reasons why he/she is unable to pay the fee. The proposed form standardizes responses, also providing clear criteria and a more efficient way for the agency to collect information. The public is encouraged to comment on the proposed fee waiver form at http://www.regulations.gov. The comment period closed on September 13, 2010
