A few in the Chinese community (and one person from Kuwait) have approached me with questions about the EB-5 visa category, which basically allows people to invest in a U.S. business (to the tune of $500,000) in return for permanent residence. I was disturbed to hear that some companies are promising investors 100% of their investment back, among other things. For those seriously interested in applying for an EB-5 visa, please read this article before moving forward. “[O]nly 54 percent of the immigrants who start the process of gaining permanent residency using the EB-5 program actually attain it. That’s a coin toss, not a slam dunk. Yet the businesses marketing the program promote it as a sure thing.”
